Katalin Hampel

Magyar Örökség Díj, Magyar Érdemrend Lovagkeresztje Kitüntetés, Pro Civibus Díj
In the pedestrian street of downtown Budapest, at Váci utca 8, in the inner courtyard, there is the patina store where an enthusiastic team works to preserve one of our oldest cultural heritages and to revive the old Hungarian clothing traditions in a fashionable form that can be worn today.

The creation of our designs is preceded by thorough research and careful planning. Our goal is to faithfully reflect the decorative elements of past eras in our garments, honoring tradition in every detail. Folk, bourgeois, and aristocratic attire are brought back to life through intricate handwork and embellishment, reimagined to meet the expectations of the modern age: traditional braids, cords, and metal buttons accompany noble fabrics. Silk, shantung, burette, velvet, brocade, cashmere, wool, and lace together create the nostalgic yet contemporary atmosphere of our salon’s collection.

I founded the Hampel Katalin Salon in 1986 with the vision of ensuring that Hungary’s rich clothing traditions are not preserved solely in museums, but remain a living part of our everyday lives. We believe this heritage is a national treasure — a source of deep inspiration. Each garment we create unites this legacy, passed down from our ancestors, with the refined demands of the present, offering a distinctive and dignified appearance for any occasion. We trust and hope that Hungarian clothing culture remains a living value, and that wearing these garments fills their wearers with pride.

Our models are available ready-made, but can also be tailored to individual measurements upon request.

We warmly welcome everyone who wishes to discover and embrace this tradition.
